painful joints, recurring migrating pain and lethargy, but no flare

HAs anyone else had problems with recurring joint pain, wrist to fingers to elbows, bilateral starts in hips moves toshins ankle toes, pressure in movement even in the chest. No swelling of joints, but pain migrating from joint to joint , affecting both sides of body. I am very tired but have not had any stomach problems.

You should see a doctor; this could be arthritis related to inflammatory disease. Best to rule it out or get treated if you have it.

Unexplained joint pain alone often suggests IBD; it's common. My gut is a little "twingey," but my primary complaint is joint pain and fatigue. Sulfasalazine has controlled the joint pain really well for some time now, but it's getting worse. I can't shake the fatigue, which is common even in remission.

Don't be surprised if your docs aren't sure what to do. My local GP and GI sort of shrug their shoulders and suggest I learn to cope with it. (That just excites me in all the wrong ways.) I'm headed to a large research hospital's IBD clinic next week to see if something can be done.

Not to thread-jack, but I'd be interested in hearing from some of the folks who had surgery if IBD-associated joint pain and fatigue went away after surgery.

Went to bed at 8 last night, woke with yeast infection and some stomach issues. I took darvocette for pain, it has subsided am going to work in an hour but feeling a little tired. I have mentioned the recurring migrating pain and the docs look at me with that deer in the headlight look, I read about it in discription of UC so why do they act like its not connected? I have had a positive ANA test years ago but numbers were too low to be considered RA or Lupus, I really think it is connected to my UC, pre cursor Flare? like an auora before migraine? my GI retired 2 years ago plodding through with my GP. HAve had this joint pain off and on since the 1990's. Does any one else have these migrating joint pains?

I had severe joint pain for probably a dozen years before the intestinal symptoms showed up.  In the past year, it's been the joint pain.  Like you, I wondered if it was leading to a full-blown flare, but it hasn't.

I noticed in your signature that you were on sulfasalazine.  Were the joint pains controlled at that time?  You might consider returning to it.  It took about three months to kick in, but once it did, I was free of joint pain for a couple of years.

I had migrating joint pain only when I was taking Asacol.

Pain in joints can be hard to nail down, especially as one moves into middle age. It can be UC-related, or UC drug-related, or osteoarthritis. (Or related to treatment you got for other medical conditions.) Are you having insurance problems now? The best move would be to consult a gastroenterologist who subspecializes in IBD treatment, who could sort out your symptoms. Have you been tested for vitamin D deficiency? My gastro thought it was a contributor to recurrent hip pain I had 5-6 yrs ago. As for lethargy, it's not unusual for UCers to feel tired even in remission, as Seconder pointed out. Don't feel guilty for needing to rest frequently or take naps. Best wishes for you to get relief soon. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal.)
