update on 8 yr old son

He had his capsule test done today and it went well. the gi said he thinks he has heart burn and so kind of infection(or had the infection). he said with him not responding to the prednisone at all that usually rules out IBD not 100% but usually. (I know when I take pred. I'm better within a day). He said he has to wait until the results come back from the capsule test but he said he really don't think it is crohn's and he said you might not know what it is but if this comes back clear then you rather not know then him to have crohn's he is going to have issues for the rest of his life. (I know... lol) and he said if it comes back clear then they have about 12 different meds they can try to treat his heart burn and his pain. He said he might have or have had an infection that hasn't cleared up and when they went in that was the acute inflammation they saw. He said when he put the camera in he said everything looked great in first part of the small interstine. No ulcers nothing. I'm soooo glad they think it isn't crohn's but I'm just upset they can't figure out why he throws up in his mouth about 5-10 times a day. My husband has stomach issues and he has major heart burn maybe he just has that is what everyone is thinking. It just sucks. Even with heart burn sould he be doing that? I don't think so. So it sounds like he will be switched from med to med until they find the right one. Hoping one works. I will get the results of the capsule test next week and I will let you all know.

That sounds like good news. I am happy they don't think it is UC or Chrons. Is heartburn the same as acid reflux? It sounds like one of those conditions. Hopefully it is something easy to treat!

Well, it'll be the longest week, that's for sure! Hope it can give something definitive...and that the meds can work for your son.

This all sounds hopeful...... and most importantly, it sounds as though they're finding some answers that might help your son!
My older son has stomach pain and vomiting spells from time to time, has for a few years - and early summer his pcp dxed him with heartburn. Prescribed rantadine for a month, also had him try lactose-free diet. The lactose made no different, the pills did.... now he's off them with some cautions about heavy meals, especially at night, and doing fine at the moment.
Just to give you a good news story!

Thanks everyone, yeah we think he gets heart burn or acid reflux and then gets the pain and then gets himself worked up because it hurts. He has been on prilosec and now on prevacid and those aren't working. My husband is on a new med and they are going to try him on it and see how he does.

Wondering if the capsule results came back yet ... If his jejunum was inflamed it could take a while to clear up. Could be that some dietary adjustment will help his reflux problem, as Songlady says it works for her son. You might want to read the book "Why Stomach Acid is Good for You" by Jonathan Wright or if you live near Seattle take him to the Tahoma clinic. Good luck.

Don't have the results yet. He goes to the doc. on Thursday(Sept. 9th) to talk about the results. So we have another week. Thanks everyone for the advice.
