Fissures?

Wondering if anyone else has had issues with fissures. I had a chronic one that required surgery (LIS) to fix.

Now it seems it's back. I know fissures are one symptom of Crohn's but are they common with UC?

Yes, fissures are common for Uc just as it is with Crohn's. It's the fistula's that are seen more in Crohn's patients.

Anyone can get fissures. Wiping is my culprit..I keep opening it.

Ugh! I have a chronic fissure, too. It is absolutely horrible. The most painful thing I've ever experienced. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Fissures are awful.

Can someone please explain the difference between a fissure and a fistula? Can either come with an abscess? I had a perianal abscess 9 months ago and I am wondering if it were a fistula then I might have Crohn's instead of UC. Thanks

Abscesses usually occur in fistulas which is more indicative of Crohn's.
