It is finally fall and cool where I live. Just had some Swiss Miss Indulgent collection French Vanilla the other day. With a little whip cream, yum yum!!!

I'm in SF and when it gets really cold & rainy, I love hot chocolate with a shot of Rumplemintz ;-) Godiva has a great hot chocolate mix.
LilD must be in hot Los Angeles, here in San Fran it's only 89!

Anyone know of a good milk-free hot chocolate? Since my last flare up I've been extremely lactose intolerant.

I can eat dark chocolate candy OK but hot cocoa from Starbucks or Godiva sends me into a flare. The good news is that I can recover quickly if I learn my lesson (again) and not drink it more than once and stick to my diet. But I am not going to beg the lightning to strike by drinking it throughout the winter.

i actually use hot cocoa to loosen my bowls when i'm constipated. the swiss miss mixed with water tastes amazing and helps get things moving. generally anything hot will do, but the cocoa is my favorite!

I am so hot. I wish I could think about
hot chocolate but with the temperature at 110, all I can think about
is a cold bath, maybe some sushi. Anything cold!! When I have hot chocolate I make it from cocoa, I don't like when there is too much sugar added.

OOO, my other favorite flavor is the Chocolate Mint Cocoa from Trader Joe's. I don't live by one anymore, but when I did that was what I always drank!

UCcurly girl, actually I just looked and the Trader Joe's Mint Cocoa is non-dairy, you can't make it with water. You could try that with Soy milk or Lactaid. It is really yummy!

NewMama, I definitely can't have chocolate during a flare, or alcohol, either. I seem to be okay with milk & milk products, though.

Lild - you must be in Southern California...me too!!! It was 109 degrees in my town and I live in a beach city! It was only 99 degrees where I work...near LAX, but I rushed home at lunch to thoroughly soak my two little kitties in cold water. Today was the hottest day in history in downtown Los Angeles...113 degrees! But we did have the coldest summer on record since 1934. :)
Hot chocolate is making me feel even hotter! I, too, can't drink hot chocolate because of the dairy that is in the mix.
Let's talk popsicles!....but I can't eat those either! :)

Yes! I am in Santa Barbara and I live right next tot he beach too. The worst part is that my house was just as hot today!! I had to drive around in my car with AC full blast for a bit of relief. When I took a nap this afternoon I had two ice packs on me. Only helped a little.
ON a serious note I truly feel for older ones and pets who had to endure this heat. It can be so dangerous. We are not used to this weather so no one is prepared or has AC. I swear we are not being pansies :)

A few years ago my daughter was in high school and was given a glass canister with homemade hot chocolate mix. Well let me just say that we have tried so many recipes and mixes, so when she was given this one, we were skeptical (I usually make it from scratch from the recipe on the Hershey Cocoa baking can). It was so good but she never got the recipe, although I've hounded her to keep asking her friend.
It had powdered milk in it and sugar. It was so good and didn't last long. I kept the jar and try to duplicate it but never can. One of these days I'm going to call this girl's mother. Forget college girls - they have other things on their mind besides asking for recipes....lol
With winter soon upon us, I'll try asking one more time and post it if ever get my hands on the recipe.

My all time fav hot chocolate is to add a good slurp of baileys and whipped cream on top with more chocolate sprinkled on top dont have them very often only as a very special treat but are very yummy.

I must be an odd ball because I HATE hot chocolate/cocoa. Give me a nice cup of hot tea on a cold winter day and I am a happy camper :)

Oh, I love hot chocolate, but it does not agree with me.
I'm not sure if it's the milk or the caffeine. It usually makes my stomach feel wonky.

There is not alot of caffine in hot chocolate. I too can't drink caffee. It kills me literally. But I am fine with HC.

My fave is Ghirardelli chocolate mocha cocoa that I stir into heated Lactaid nonfat or 1% (lactose-free milk). G. also makes a cocoa called "double chocolate" that's yummy, plus a couple other blends. They are relatively low-sugar & do not have any artificial ingredients likely to bug our guts-- but caffeine-sensitive people should go slow if trying them out. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
