Any success with Entocort?

Hello - I am scheduled for a colonoscopy on Thursday and the plan is to start me on Imuran after that however I was given Entocort to start in the mean time...  I just started it yesterday and wondered if anyone on this board has used it and whether it helped.  I have been on pred before and it helped only while I was taking it.  My doctor said entocort releases directly into the intestines and only about 5% is absorbed systematically which is good.  Have any of you taken it before and what were the results?  (Oh I am on 3 pills a day for 30 days and he did not mention tapering off but I also forgot to ask about that)...

While I was on Entocort I felt better, really like Supergirl, lots of energy. No it didn't help me and after it was over I went back to being tired, due to constant D.
My side effects were bruising on legs and arms.
It is possible that it could jumpstart your recovery if you are also starting another type of medication like Imuran. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones :-) I wish it is so.

I had lots of success with it and I have distal UC. I had to taper quickly due to tachycardia though and my symptoms returned. But it did offer me immediate, signifigant relief. I noticed no side effects besides the tachycardia.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems like it is helping but I am not sure. I am feeling better and going to the bathroom less but I only started taking in it a few days ago so I am not sure that it could be helping already...

It helped me a lot, but in the long run not enough as my DX was amended because I hadn't gotten all the way through a month without issues.  Side effects so far have been minimal.  Went from daily issues to about 2 weeks without an issue.  That is a win of some sort as far as I am concerned.  I have been on 3 pills a day so far most of this year.

mdf34 - What made them decide you have Crohn's and not UC? Did you have another scope or the blood test?

I wasn't getting better, the change in meds adding the entocort did not help enough, so I got to do the pill cam and that finalized the CD DX, then changed from Lialda to Pentasa.  I did NOT test postive blood work wise, my GI says only about 30% of people with CD test positive for it in blood work.

Interesting. I think it can be hard sometimes to be certain whether one has Crohn's or UC...

I started with Entocort when I was first diagnosed with UC back in May. It did not help me at all; I actually felt like I was getting worse. Not to mention it cost me about 110.00 per week! I spent well over $1,000.00 for this medication and it really did not do anything. I only took it because I did NOT want to go on Prednisone. What do you know.. after all, I am on Prednisone and have not seen blood in over a month =) However, I won't mention the nasty side effects of Prednisone.

Entocort in enema form seems to be effective for some people and little of the steroid is absorbed. I would have tried it already if I lived in a country where it was available (i.e., not the United States)

i was only supposed to be on entocort for three weeks, and ended up accidentally being on it for over 13 months (the GI forgot to take me off of it). for me, i went from 141 lbs and 4 feet 11.5 inches (August 9, 2009) to 167 lbs and 4 feet 10 inches (September 3, 2010). I also developed issues with passing out, dry heaves, constant fatigue, my liver function, among other things. it worked well, but ruined me over the long run.

I was on entocort from July 2010 to December 2010. It helped me a lot! My body could not absorb the prednisone because my flare up was so bad so the entocort's special release was really what I needed. However, I've been off it for about three weeks now and have been having symptoms since about 5 days after I went off of it. I will probably be going back on it soon.
