Hi All,

It's been a while and wish I was coming back to say hi.  Unfortunately, I think I am having a flare up, just went to the Doc about a week ago and all was well or so I thought.  I thought my period cramps were lasting longer than usual, but nope, period is gone cramping is still here and I can see the evidence of one coming on.

I am being good and called my doc today, waiting to hear back.  I'm only on 5mg of pred and have been for a couple mos, was on 7.5mg for about 6 months and 10mg for about a year w/no problems at all. Could've been the cellcept, which I stopped in Jan.

I think he's either going to up my pred and or put me on Imuran again.....he mentioned remicade but don't want to go there yet.

Hope this is a short one, not like the tsunami of a flare I had a few years ago.

Hi Beth, good to hear from you again but I'm sorry it's under these circumstances! I hope this flare is short lived and you get it under control quickly.

You mentioned your GI doc may put you back on the Imuran.  How long were you on it before he/she took you off of it?  I have been taking Imuran for almost two years and I was just wondering if one can get off of it?

Hi My UC,

I was on Imuran for 2 years then I was put on Cellcept for my kidney disease and could not be on that and Imuran at the same time b/c they are both immune suppressants.

I was taken off the cellcept this January b/c it was not helping my kidneys (which can also work for uc in some patients my GI told me) and just left on the prednisone. I probably should have gotten back on imuran, but I wanted to see what would happen (now I think I am about to flare).

Thanks for reply and information Beth.  I am having my next colonscopy in about 2 weeks and my GI doc and I will review everything in early November.  We shall see what we do next based on what he sees in the colon.  I can't believe I just wrote that.  Again thanks.

I was on 6MP in the 1990s and at that time my GI said if it worked, that the longest I could stay on it was 5 years. At the end of 5 years I would have been put back on Asacol. Since then research has proven that 6MP is safer then originally thought so they might be keeping patients on it longer then 5 years now.

Thanks for the information.  I know I have asked you this in the past  but what meds are you currently on?  If any.  Did you go back on ASA meds?  Let me know and again thanks.

No, 6MP did not work for me so I had surgery. This was 9 years ago when the last drug for us was 6MP or Imuran. I no longer take any medications, nor do I see a GI.

How could I forget, Suebear (smack forehead!).  I forgot, you are the poster child for surgery and I do mean that in a good way.  Sorry, I have read hundreds of your posts and how surgery has given you your life back.  I just had a brain fart.  Sorry but again thanks for the feedback.

Welcome back, Beth75, and good luck fighting off the potential flare! How are your kidneys doing? We longtime posters have thought of you many times, hoping that no news meant good news. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
