how common is this

It's been about 6 weeks since I was diagnosed and after taking rowasa enemas at night i noticed a remarkable improvement in my symptoms.

This week I found out that my great aunt was diagnosed with "colitis" and had some of her intestines removed. (My mom talked to her so I don't know details). She was never put on medication and even today is having frequent D and stomach pains. She is still not on any med but is seeing a new dr at the cleve. clinic next month so I am sure that will change.

Then I also found out my husband's cousin has been dealing with frequent D and severe urgency for the last 4 months to the point where she can't make it all the to work without stopping and is now at her highschool weight. She was given a colonoscopy and they couldn't determine anything, but she was not given any meds either.

So my question is - how common is it for people to NOT be given medication? I was really surprised because I know how fast the meds have helped me. I find this really shocking actually and was just wondering how often this happens to people. I feel so bad for them.

I was just wondering why for both of them their doctors are not giving them medicine.  I know you guys can't answer that.  But it just seems so weird to me that they are suffering and not being given medicine whereas I was given medicine immediately.  It just made me wonder how many other people go for so long dealing with this and their docs don't give any meds.  I def think they need to get new docs!

 

Liability perhaps? In the case of your husband's cousin, if they don't know for sure whats wrong yet, why risk prescribing drugs? I don't know why they wouldn't for your aunt though. Like suebear said though, we don't have all the information so its impossible to do much more than speculate.
