Has anyone seen this before?
My son who is 6, just had the 1st of 3 surgeries for UC, (Colon Removed)
Before surgery he was taking Prednisone - 10mg (reduced from 20mg 3 days before surgery) and Vyvanse (ADHD 30mg).
He was a fairly typical 6 year old, not afraid of much, never had much anxiety, fear of the dark or sleeping in his room.
about 5 days after the surgery Oct 3rd or so, while we where still in the hospital - he started showing signs of anxiety, A cartoon scared him, he was then afraid to sleep, nightmares... (could be a typical for his age.)
We come home from the hospital and the anxiety gets much worse, he will not go to his room to play, afraid of being in a different room. Even if his friends are in the house, he will not go to a different room.... he says things like "I will be ok, I just need to take a deep breath.... " very anxious, almost like the begining of a panic attack....
Again this is very unlike our son, so my first thoughts are this is some type of medicine interaction. He has been on vyvanse for about 1 year and doing well on it... the prednisone was only used to control the flare up...
We have called into our Dr's and have an appointment with his Psycologist this week..... we also stopped giving him Vyvanse for 3 days... which seemed to initially help, but now his ADHD is comming back with a vengence.
We are now at 3mg of Prednisone, lowering 1mg per 4 days.
Some other interesting observations.
When he is on Vyvanse and Prednisone,
Appitite is very low (Vyvanse does this)
Stoma output is very thick, not very watery (thinking this has to do with Vyvanse)
Stoma output mostly at night... very little during the day.
When we stopped Vyvanse for 3 days. still on Prednisone
Appitite was endless (expected with a steriod)
Stoma output - all the time - much more loose, liquid
Very moody - his way or no way...
Any thoughts.... just seeing if anyone has experience similar to this?
He seems to be very comfortable with the stoma... and does not complain about it.
