Hi all:

Well I had my houseguest the end of September then a week family vacation in Disney World.  I got through them both flare free...hooray.  My husband was amused at how I was so careful with my Rowasa on the drive to Florida (we live in Kentucky).  They received primo treatment...not too hot, not too cold, I kept shifting them around.  He understands of course how very important they are!!

I did miss reading what's going on with you guys though, so I'm back! :)

Awesome news you got through your guest, holiday and travels without any setbacks.

I do laugh at the Rowasa treatment...liquid gold..lol.

How are you doing at this point?

Hi quincy....I'm feeling good.  Still 1 occasionally 2 BMs a day, pretty much no other symptoms.  I'm going to now taper to every other night with the Rowasa...I was waiting to get through the vacations and visitors.  If that goes well I"m going to stay at every other night through Christmas...this was the time last year I tapered too fast and had to start all over! 

I would also like to perhaps get to 6 Asacol a day...hmmm, should I do that at the same time as the Rowasa taper or before or after?  Decisions, decisions...

Welcome back and so glad to hear that you have had no more problems!!  Good luck w/ the taper....I have been too scared but I know soon I will have to take the leap. I also think the enemas are gold.  Glad your back.

c-o-t-o....What dosage of Asacol are you on? and where in the colon is your UC?

I am currently on 8/day of the Asacol 400mg.  I take 4 in the morning and 4 at night as close to 12 hours apart as possible.  My GI is fine with this but he says I can taper to 6 and see if that works for me. 

My UC is from the rectum to and including the sigmoid, no involvement further up which is why I suppose the Rowasa made such a difference for me.  The Asacol alone did help but did not completely get rid of symptoms so I feel that both meds are helping me.

Your thoughts?

If you're having more formed stool and consistency, you could go down one pill a week or every 2 weeks and see how you do.

staying at every second night before christmas is a good thing. I've done that many times...stayed at slow tapers, especially over holidays or stressful times...worked well.

You can always increase the asacol if you need.

When's your next c-scope?

You might want to add another probiotic....or double the ones you take.

Yes, I'm thinking I'm for sure going to stay at every other night through Christmas. 

Regarding the Asacol, I think I might drop to 3 in the morning/4 at night in a couple weeks after I see if I'm going to do ok with this enema taper.

C-scope...well my family doc would say I need one this coming summer, my GI says he'd be ok if I waited 3 years from my first one (which was July 2009).  So I'm not sure.
