Had colonoscopy ..... thought i was going to die..

Had acolonoscopy on wednesday and at the same time they decided to give me an edoscope aswell yeah.........

I had really bad stomach pains after they had finished it was worse than labour pains....They ended up giving me pain killers and buscopan which sent me tachycardic........ They thought they had perforated my bowel because of the pain so tehy did an xray. Everything was ok except the large amount of air they had put inside me and it wouldn't come out..... Was kept in hospital incase i had to go back to surgery.. Then ended up ha ing really low blood pressure that they were worried about.... In the end it worked itseelf out but boy don't think i want that doctor doing my surgery again. Was suppose to have biopsies taken and he didnt even do that.....

Has anyone ever suffered from this sort of thing before?

Thank you for your response..I have also had 3 kids with no pain killers. I have a high pain tollerance and this was 10 times worse than labour pains believe me.... I dont think the doctor really knew what he was doing because he kept coming to check on me about 6 times. He was not my normal doctor. He said that the normal doctor would tell him off for not doing what he was suppose to do..... I also had a reation to the buscopan. i wont be getting him to do the colonoscopy or endoscope again. I am very tender in my stomach now and on the toilet again......

Not really sure what he did wrong.....

When I had my colonoscopy done back in July I woke up in the middle of the sedation screaming in pain ~ air being pushed into a colon that is having a severe flare is not pleasant! I was nearly bed ridden for two days after. My blood pressure dropped dangerously low so they could not give me any more sedatives to ease the discomfort. I ended up fainting a few times after I was discharged from my blood pressure being so low! One of the worse experiences of my life... This whole experience has been just terrible!

Were you medicated ? Put to sleep ? This sounds awful. So sorry you had to endure this.

Hey everyone 9weeks after having the colonoscopy I ended up in hospital for a week. I did not get better after the bad experience with the colonoscopy but got worse so the doctor must have done something wrong as i ended up with

An abscess in my bowel, kidney infection, pnemonia, thrush and cold sores. The doctor at the hospital thinks the abscess was from the op. and the other infections was from using steroids for long periods of time and them reducing my imune system to nothing. I have had 3 different antibiotics in the last 2 weeks straight to get rid of all the infections and touch wood I think I am getting better. Yippeee.

Gosh- so sorry you had to go through that. It sounds very, very much like an inexperienced trainee was at the wheel, and using you as their guinea pig. Happened to me once (I learned after the fact) and it was similarly horrific. I will never allow that again. A competent, experienced endoscopist knows how to be patient as they work their way up and will not rely on brute force to push the scope up.... And I have always been conscious (albeit well sedated with happy juice) during my procedures.

Wow I thought it was the easiest thing I ever had done. I was never put under before so I was very nervious in the hospital. Even the nurse look at my BP monitor and asked "are you nervous?" The guy hooked up the line to my vein and said "don't worry I'm a very good bartender" as he smiled. I said can I please have a double ! They take me into the room set me up and the guy says "count to 3." I was out before I hit 3 ! I couldnt believe how easy I went out. I woke up in bed and doc says "you will feel bloated and if you have to go poof just do it and left the air out." I did lots of poofs that day and was fine.
