Questions about my Ulcerative Colitis.

I am really curious about what remission is considered to be for ulcerative colitis.  I am still going to the bathroom on some days up to 7 - 10 times a day and it's pretty painful.  Also, there is still a lot of blood but no diarrea.  I also still get a lot of pain which is not always fixed by dicyclomean.  Plus sometimes I run a low grade fever for a week at a time.  Whenever I talk to my doctor he says that I need to see my GP because it's not related to my condition and that I don't have any food restrictions at all.  I really need to go out and get a job but really nervous that I won't be able to make it to work everyday.  I was just diagnosed in May this year so I'm still trying to figure things out.  Also, I'm always tired and wiped out.  Do you ever get your energy back?

First of all, I would find another GI. Yes you can run low grade fevers with Uc, especially if you have pancolitis - do you know the extent of your Uc? And as far as the food restrictions go, we are all different in what we can or can not tolerate. My GI told me once that if a food bothers you, don't eat it but he couldn't recommend what to avoid.

I'm in remission now and I go to the bathroom 1-3x's a day with solid stool, no blood, no pain and no urgency. My energy is still sort of so so but I can do more now then when I was flaring.

I've had U.C for 24 years,and during those 24 years i've been on a couple of different anti-imflamatories.In my opinion they are not going to get a modereate to severe flare into remission.They are time released meds,so you HOPE they open up not to soon and not to late,i've been on Asacol[faster released] and now i'm on Apriso[slower released] and i'm in a moderate flare that is tough to get under control-very runny stools alot of the time.With me it's part diet[eat light-careful what you eat],Apriso[hope it helps],6mp[for the last year-on 100mg now-is it enough-i'm 205lbs],rowasa[seems to help me-in my mind it gets to what the Apriso doesn't].It's all TRIAL and ERROR with U.C ,what works for you might not work for me-GOOD LUCK and keep on checking your post because someone might give you another suggestion that will work for you. 

Funny, he never really told me. He just told me it was UC & I have to drive an hour to the appointment to see him for 15 maybe 20 minutes for him to just tell me to keep taking my meds. I'm really over it. Asacol is the only medicine he wants to give me and that's it. I'm about to quit going to him and just forget the meds period. I'm not getting any better and I really need to go get a job but most of my time it seems like I'm on the toilet. When I told him I was going to the bathroom 7-8 times a day he told me to take one Imodium in the morning and one at night but all that does is back me up causing an even worse flare-up in a week or so.
