Imuran Problems!! Gastro is out of Country for 2 weeks!! Need advice!

Hi there, I am on Imuran, have been on 150 a day since October 15th, but Friday and Saturday night I was up all night puking my guts out..... Can not handle that again. I did not take my medication last night (Sunday)

Advice?? Should I keep taking it?? I can't handle the nausea. Load up on Gravol?? Other??


I am down to 5 mg of Prednisone, almost weaned off (this Friday)
Blood has re-appeared in my bowel movements as well (first noticed on the 16th, looks to be on toilet paper mainly)

Other than that, I feel great....

What should I do????? Just stay off the stuff?

Take Gravol, I took some Saturday night and it did nothing for me...

i'd give the imuran another try. if you start vomiting again it'd be pretty safe to assume that it is the cause. if not then maybe it was some kind of virus or food poisoning perhaps. some people have nausea with the imuran, but my son hasn't had any so IDK how severe it is.

i've heard taking it at night with a large meal helps?

I was on 6mp and predisone. When I started weaning I started getting sick and by the time I was at 0 I was vomiting and dry heaving for weeks. The told me it was the 6 mp and to stop that and eventually it went away but then after being off the 6mp I started bleeding again and restarted it ( no pred ) and was not nauseas so it was the side effects of the predisone getting out of my body. I had read at the time on a forum that you can be vomiting and sick for months. It lasted for me a good 6 weeks.

Well puking for 6 weeks is no way to live. Not doing that. Called another GI (amazingly got her cell number online!) and she told me to drop to 100 tonight and see if that is okay for me.. told me she thinks I went to 150 way to fast.

Did 50 for 1 week, 100 for 1 week, and then right up to 150 as per GI's directions.... also, she told me I shouldn't be at this low level of prednisone -- 5mg and completely off on Friday -- as it takes up to 3 months for imuran to kick in so she found that odd as well....

Think I need a new GI?? (I do take it at supper time fyi killcolitis)

I had very bad reactions to 100 mg Imuran. My doctor said it was viral meningitus. ER freaked out and worried that I had a massive brain tumor because of convulsions. The second time I went in to the ER, it was very obvious it had to be the Imuran and I was vomiting so violently that eventually it was bloody vomit. I do not encourage taking the 150 dose again until you have had a chance to be on a lower dose schedule for much longer. I can handle 50 mgs but nothing higher. Oddly the 50 mgs is working although it isn't considered a theraputic dose. Switch to the new doctor. The plan was for me to be increasing dosages every four weeks. I also take a Zofran 8 mg tablet when I have extreme nausea.

Did 100 last night as recommended. Worst night of my life ever...(Including College puke days!!).... I think my Body is DONE with Imuran... NEXT Please!! I assume they will suggest Remicade. What is a better option I could suggest?
