On 6 Asacol, my doc says its OK to go three and three, instead of two, two, two.
What's your suggestions? My inclination is to stick with 2,2,2

3 and 3...that's what I've done the entire time I've been on Asacol. One will usually forget the middle dosage.
Do what works for you....why are you worried about
it so much?

At six I flared last time. So it's a bit of a scary number for me.

so why are you at 6? It is a good # to stay at for maintenance for pancolitis, but I would suggest that at the first sign of a flare, you up them to 8 for sure and increase your rectal meds (as usual).

Yes, I'm at every third day on rectal meds and six on Asacol. It's the minimum and now if I feel the pain in my rectum when passing a stool, I know what to do. I bet there's a million other signs of a potential flare, as this disease always changes. I hope I can stay at the minimum for a while. I'm very proud at how I'm managing the beast! I feel that I'm one of the fortunate ones. Eight months ago, I was on my way to get my baseline liver enzymes tested to go on 6mp because doc said I couldn't maintain on 5 ASAs. Hope I've proved him wrong!

Quincy, what do you think I should do with the Canasa? Every third day? Stop altogether?
I do have an appointment next week with an endocrinologist to discuss my non-functioning adrenal glands.
and another check up with my GI.

How exactly are you on the rectals every third night...you mean the enema and the Canasa?
You could do the Enema every third night, the Canasa nightly and see if that helps.

I noticed that you don't do suppositories. Why is that?
I'm on Rowasa every third night and I haven't settled on a Canasa regime. Now I'm doing Canasa every other day.

I personally don't like suppositories because they leak when I push to have a pee...and heaven forbid if I have any gas. I have dry farts mostly...so I don't think if I have in the supps.
My doc thinks the enemas work better, but he'd put me on the supps if I asked for them. He offered them to me eons ago for tapering and maintenance. Nah...ugh.
For treatment...no...for maintenance...no...so I'll never ask him for them..lol.
I use the proctocedyl suppositories for hemmies on occasion and I hate them too...but these ones are clear and don't seem to leak as readily as the Salofalk ones did. Maybe because of the composition of them..etc.
As well...I use the enema in a way that I get even some of the inside of the anus and right at the tip of the rectum...so I think for me they're more effective.
The enemas also come in a 2 gram dosage...fyi.

Interesting, your encounters with suppositories. I remember that Canasa saved my butt on a drop below 7.5 mg pred a year ago. I was in so much pain passing stool and it immediately cleared up without my having to increase the pred. Of course, that's when you were pushing enemas on me and I wasn't listening, but at least the Canasa worked.
I'm going to go to every other day so if I have to I can go up to one a day, or two a day.
