more results from colonoscopy

So, my GI called yesterday (while in was in a doc's waiting room with my son, so it was a cryptic and quick conversation).... although my colon had looked good except the bottom few inches, visually, there was mild inflammation on and off (depending on where the enemas hit) all the way into the cecum (as best I understood). It was mild, and I'm back to Rowasa every night although when I start to see blood again I'm throwing in a steroid enema. Bummer that the report is not as good as it had appeared at first, but... still better than I often am in the Fall.
I may call him again and ask for a copy of the report or at least ask him to repeat the results so I can write them down, and ask what he thinks I might do, more, to help. (He seemed to think I'm doing the right things, and if I'm not having symptoms, he didn't seem too worried....he was glad I immediately suggested stepping up the Rowasa.)

Most importantly - no dysplasia, hooray!

bosco..No, the enema won't go to the cecum.

songlady....Mild inflammation can show microscopically but not visually....but it's great you're doing what you need to do to keep all as calm as possible.

Awesome news regarding NO dysplasia.

Ask for a copy of the report rather than you to write it down. Some little words in there are sometimes different than the "interpretation.

Good for your records too as well as research for terms, etc.

When I was first diagnosed with UC I was upset about a biopsy from my ascending colon that showed mild chronic colitis. I assumed it meant 1) I had CD or 2) I had microscopic colitis from the endpoint of my severe UC in the sigmoid all the way to my cecal patch.

My GI assured me (I asked him for the next three appts becuase I'm OCD like that) that this type of result shows up regularly on his "normal" patients. That made me feel better about it.

Then, months later, I read this thread on Healing Well about some chronic inflammation in the colon being healthy:

Do you think this could be what showed up in your biopsy? Maybe that's why he didn't appear too concerned?

I certainly didn't have any symptoms of microscopic colitis, I had uncontrollable C, not D...

I was so busy yesterday I didn't have time to log on (or even tie my shoes.......) but I wanted to thank you - I really liked your line of thinking, and it raised my spirits a great deal.

I do need to call the GI back, as I wasn't in the best place to listen well; but I'm thinking what he saw was current active inflammation in the bottom few inches and "inflammatory changes" inactive, from over the years, in the rest of it all.

Thanks for reminding us of this article about inflammation in all colons, and thanks for cheering me up!

I'll post again when I (pant, pant) have time to call the GI and get the report (and, yes, Q, request a copy. )
