There is good evidence out there. I am a physician and like you, really look to evidence based medicine to guide my decisions. That being said, not all clinical trials are created equal. You have to consider sample size, the design of the study and many other factors. If you go to pubmed.com, you will be able to search from an incredible data base of information. Search VSL#3. Search Probiotic. You'll find some studies that have been conducted focusing on constituents of the inflammatory cascade that may not seem as interesting because they aren't studying individuals, but are also very meaningful studies. Anecdotal evidence can be helpful as well, so don't totally discount it. Though I haven't published my own personal results to probiotics, I feel like in some way I am conducting a very well thought out personal clinical trial of 1 and that may be meaningful to you or other readers of this posting.
Good luck
