Upper left side pain

Hi,

In the past couple of days, I have experienced some pain in my upper left side, about 1 inch under the rib cage. It is not very sharp, but intermittent, comes every 4 seconds or so. I have never had pain with my UC before, only a mild discomfort in the lower left side sometimes.
Has anybody had the same kind of pain in the upper abdomen? Or any ideas what that might be?

I don't have any other UC symptoms right now, but I worry that the pain might be from the colon.

Hi. I too have it and yes, for me it comes from the ascending colon.
By the way, are you from Romania? You nickname suggests you are.

Hello there. I have proctitis (UC confined to the rectum only) and I suffer an enormous amount of abdominal pain. It seems to transfer ALL the way up my colon or something and usually its the first sign of a flare or when I am in the midst of a nasty flare. Mind you Ive suffered this pain incessantly for the last five years. Only now that Im finally on the right meds and most likely getting the inflammation under control that I think I may be getting the pain under control.

I had serious abdominal pain just before and during my last flare. But not everyone with UC suffers pain. I do not know what I am talking about so this is just a guess, but I wonder if abdominal pain is the result of inflammation creating wormholes or something in the intestinal wall that results in ‘leaky gut’.

My flare resulted in secondary UC manifestations such as arthritis and eye inflammation. One theory is that this is caused by food and bacteria escaping from the digestive system into the bloodstream.

This should be easy to verify. Those who suffer abdominal pain during a flare would be the ones who get secondary manifestations of UC; while the other UCers don’t. But I am just guessing.
