My opinion is it primarily improves transit time which allows my body to correct what went wrong. The husk is great for that and the seed portion is said to convert to butyric acid or however its spelled. Here is a google on it:
"Anaerobic fermentation of the soluble non-starch polysaccharides from psyllium seed results in the production of the short-chain fatty acids acetate, propionate, and butyrate in the intestines."
My understanding is that the seed heals - I try to slip into foods where it is not noticed like chocolate protein powder although I would be happier taking it in a capsule.
