6mp and Remicade

I have had 3 Remicade infusions since my current flare began in September, last one was 2 weeks ago. I was forced to finally start the remicade after being hospitalized for a week in October. First infusion made me feel great, for about a week. By the time I was ready for my second infusion I had to go back into the hospital for another week. Been feeling pretty good after my 3rd infusion, and looking forward to my next one. Unfortunately, that is not for 6 more weeks.

My doc told me today she is considering adding 6mp into my regimen. Is anyone else on 6mp as well as Remicade? Are there any side effects? How does it make you feel? Is it helping?

I am really not sure I want to add yet another drug to my rotation.

Currently on 4800mg of Asacol
25mg of Pred as I am stepping that down 5mg a week, down from 60mg.

I hate 6mp --it's a chemo drug, doctor prescribed it, I refused (he doesn't know that). These drugs, along with Remicade, are only effective for 48% (remicade, 6mp is worse) of the people after 54 weeks... Those are terrible odds when you factor in the brutal side effects of these drugs. I weened myself off Prednisone nice and slow like you and after quiting imuran a couple of days earlier I found myself without any issues. Has been 6 weeks now... My (placebo?) natural drugs seem to be doing the trick... knock on wood.. Good luck, I don't really have any answers, everybody seems to be different on what works. If I flare again I will try the 24/7 fast thing they talk about on here.

i was on remi and 6mp at the same time, apparently the 6mp can help to keep you from rejecting the remi. I didn't like it at all.
