I have been on Betnesol enemas (5 mgs in 100 ml solution) nightly, for 3 weeks now.  For the first few days I noticed a huge improvement with the amount of blood and urgency.  I went from blood in the toilet that was so dark that I couldn't see the hole at the bottom, to just a slight coloration.  Now at week 3, I feel that I am backsliding a bit - urgency has returned (still same number of BMs - just 4) and blood has increased again.  Is it normal to see symptoms wax and wane, or should I be seeing a steady improvement.  So frustrated!  I am also on 4 x 1.2 mgs. of Mezavant/ day.  The steriod enema is really throwing me for a loop too - moon face, mood changes.  I just want to be better.

For me, it is normal to have symptoms act up and then go away. It's hard to tell when the symptoms are going to get worse and when I am just going through a bad patch and they will improve on their own. 4 a day isn't terrible but it's definitely a sign that things are inflammed. I hope you can get things under control without having to add any more medication. My last flare would not subside until I was forced to take prednisone, it was that or hospitalization. I'm still tapering and dealing with moon face and weight, it's the worst! I just want to be better too. I hope thing take a turn for the better for you.

Bellydonna...have you been on the mesalamine enemas yet?

You should have shown some improvement by now.

Q - Yes, I tried the Mesalamine enema for 2 weeks and after no success with that was switched over to the Betnesol.

So discouraged. Loosing so much blood still. I am so tired of fighting this stupid disease.

Thank you for the input guys. I can't wait until January when I can get in and see my Dr. to get a proper scope done and find out where I am at. I think my number of BMs doesn't correlate to how much this disease has taken hold. While I only go 4-5x/day, the crushing fatigue and blood loss is killing me.
