new to this all

I had my gallbladder out in march of 2010 and ever since then i have had major problems. In july of 2010 i was diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis and a few other medical conditions. I am only 20 years old and feel like this disease is such a burden, my GI has tried me on so many different meds and i have seen a homeopathic doctor, but i feel as tho my condition is worsening. I really would like to kick this into remission before it turns into the full blown colitis. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what medications i should try? i have already tried predisone( which made me hallucinate and i had the worst side effects possible) welchol, entrocort, and apriso but none have worked :/ Also what do you guys do to get energy and keep from getting sick all the time. I am constanty low on energy and always sick in bed.

Hi greeneyedgirl and welcome. Yes, this disease is quite frustrating. I have it in my rectum and lower sigmoid... just slightly higher up than you. You def. def. need to be on rectal meds. For me..when it flairs up...I need steroid suppositories to kick it down. Once it is under control...I use Rowasa enemas (generic) to maintain it. Alot of people can taper to every other night or even 2x/week..but so far for me..I have to use it every night. I also take 2 Lialda/ day. Finally I take the probiotic VSL#3 and fiber (Metamucil) So just some ideas....but please get rectal meds....as I hear not enough oral meds can reach the rectum and the rectal meds (although I know it is not thrilling to do) really help the most for that area.

As far as low energy...just the usual..try to eat well, get good sleep (although I have a 3 yr old) and moderate exercise. Finally you may want to make sure you take a good vitamin and that your levels are okay. (not anemic or low on any impt vitamin)
