Colitis gone vs. Colitis Inactive

When people say they had a colonoscopy and their colitis is gone, is this the same as getting a result that it's inactive? I thought it wasn't possible to have your ulcerative colitis "go away". Wouldn't it be considered inactive? Is there a difference?

Is this determined by the GI or the pathology report? When I was in remission, they told me my colitis was inactive.

Yes, Uc doesn't ever just go away so when we have scopes and the doc doesn't see anything on the scope nor the biopsies then that is remission. My doc usually just relies on the visual aspect of it because according to him that I am always going to show some sort of changes or "damage" on the biospies (at least for me) because of my long history of having this and flaring. So my GI says things look good and no sign of active disease when I get favorable scopes....that has happened only once to me in all those years unfortunately. All the other times I have some sort of inflammation somewhere.

If I remember right their are 3 levels of remission.

Symptomatic
Endoscopic
Microscopic(?)(Biopsy)

Nothing would be seen in the last two. Inactive in a colonoscopy would be #2.
