I agree with Eva Lou-- the Northeast (USA) is very beautiful most of the time in every season. I want to stay near my wonderful gastro + cultural institutions + Atlantic Ocean. Finally last yr I qualified for retirement benefits, including Medicare Part B, which is a big relief so I hope we'll continue to have it supported by Congress. The high cost of housing is very frightening, agreed!!!!!! In my area decent studio apts. start around $2,650/month. No wonder more elderly homeless women are turning up; the average Social Security payment is ca. $1,100/month. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I/we loved living and growing up in Massachusetts. When it came time to retire we decided to go south to Florida as the winters became more and more of an issue especially for me.

We chose central Florida as we definitely have a change of seasons here and it does get cool and sometimes cold here during the winter but no snow and ice to contend with.

I think it is only for the US, but there is a website www.findyourspot.com that allows you to select how important certain things like climate, accessibility to arts, airports, hospitals etc.

We live in Los Angeles for our jobs, but I would love to live in Santa Cruz. I grew up in Cleveland and Chicago, and don't miss the cold weather at all, so I agree with the other california posters...it's hard to leave! We have also considered buying property on the islands off the coast of croatia near my husbands extended family.

Health care is a major factor, which is one of the reasons my husband is trying to reestablish his eu passport (he moved here when he was three) Just in case. He has great union insurance, and it has saved my life, literally. I'm self employed, and though I've done well with it, paying out of pocket insurance was crazy expensive, even when I was in my twenties, perfectly healthy, and with a high deductible.

I don't think I'll ever leave Minnesota. The winters suck but the summers are nice and I would miss the leaves changing in the fall.
If I HAD to move I think France would be nice. I hear mothers are allowed a year long maternity and the fathers get 6 months.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere exotic because nothing would be exotic to me after that.

I agree, I do not think I will ever leave Michigan. I would miss all of the wonderful seasons and all of our water! Plus, it makes traveling so much more enjoyable.
