Participant in research study on achieving and maintaining remission on Pentasa

Hi everyone

I'm going to be joining this as from next week. I will get put on 4.8g per day for the first 8 weeks and then it is halved and then quartered over the year. I'm doing this as I don't have money for all the doctors appointments etc... and this way I get everything for free, am monitored over the next year and have some support with this disease.

I'm already on Pentasa 2.4g a day and feel crampy and horrible - not much improvement. I am worried about the side-effects of the upped dose. Anyone had bad side effects from Pentasa? I know it depends on the individual. They say my cramps could be from the disease but I wasn't cramping before taking the tablets...

I'm also wondering if anyone else has been involved in a study group like this and what their experiences were? They say this study is taking place in 12 countries around the world - I am one of 45 people in SA to be taking part. It could be quite nice to be monitored for a year - can't hurt!

I think she means it can stain your toilet purple. The same thing happens with my Asacol and Rowasa enemas.

First day on higher dose pentasa 4 of those huge brown/red tabs a day....
I'm the first person in SA to be a part of the clinical trial - hope the meds work - so far not too bad side effects except a feeling of fatigue and just feeling a bit strange - not quite myself.
