I know this doesn't answer your question but I stopped taking probiotics all together and I haven't seen any negative effects from it. I was buying the expensive probiotics too. I don't see why they would help if your immune system is to blame for your UC? Perhaps they could help correct a bacterial imbalance but not cure it, that would probably require an antibiotic.
A lot of things don't add up but I don't think anyone ever claimed they did. I think the doctors just go through the steps and hope something helps you but they have no idea whether it will. In fact, they don't even know if they are treating an autoimmune condition, a bacterial condition, a stress related condition, a hormonal condition...
Do you think you have an autoimmune condition? That would mean that 6mp would probably help lower your immune response and it *should* help you. It seems to have helped me, maybe my situation is autoimmune. I never believed it was because I always had normal bloodwork, no markers for inflammation... at the same time, that doesn't rule out the possibility of an underlying unidentified bacteria causing my immune system to react to my colon? that said, probiotics weren't helping and they were hurting my pocket.
