Thank you all so much for your generosity and support. I'm sure you realize how much it helps.
Our son is in pretty desperate circumstances, so any "alternative" means are probably beyond us at this point. He needs blood transfusions every 3-4 days, is alarmingly thin and fed thru a pick line. Whatever happens will have to be soon.
They're talking about a double dose of Remicade, 10 days after the first one. Prednisone, imuran, hydrocortisone, then Remicade = NO effect, and he continues to deteriorate. Even if the second dose of Remicade "works," what life can he expect? Many downsides of Remicade, not the least of which is unrecoverable lymphoma.
I know surgery will not be "easy" in any sense, especially for him. Considering his options tho, I am having a hard time seeing an up side to retaining this very damaged colon. What does he gain even if this second dose of Remicade "works?" Stay on it for a few years with up and down problems of UC, not to mention the problems of Remicade, and THEN have surgery anyway? Am I thinking about this clearly?
Thanks again. You are all so generous.
