Question for the ladies

Hi all! This isn't exactly a UC question but figure you guys might be able to help! I have taken a birth control pill for 12 years (only time off was while I was pregnant). I am considering stopping it. Not to get pregnant but just because I take so many UC meds I want to take one less pill. Also to give my body a break from the hormones. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I want to stop too but I don't want children. I was thinking about trying mirena or another IUD. That would eliminate a pill, some of them are non-hormonal. Not sure if that would be good or bad for UC but my GI thinks it's a good idea for me. Unfortunately many insurance companies will not cover the insertion of an IUD.

I have the Mirena IUD and love it. I am actually on my second one. The first one I had to have removed d/t unexplained abdominal pain which went away once it was removed. I was already planning to remove it in a few months anyway to try and get pregnant again. After my second child was born I had a second one put in and I have not had any problems with it - that was 2 years ago.
