Thanks for indirect info, Quincy!

In a recent post of yours to KatKat re gall bladder issues, you cited a Website offering many suggestions for maintenance/treatment. I looked it up because over the past yr I've had gb pain about 4 times after eating higher-fat items than I usually indulge in. (Mentioned it to gastro, who said that a sonogram is always possible.) Well, I noticed that your Website recommends fiber as an aid in processing fats. I'm currently o.k. with a raw celery stalk occasionally (UC-wise, I mean) so I decided to pair it with a toasted gruyere cheese on whole wheat flour pita for lunch. It worked perfectly-- no problem at all digesting 1-2 oz. of cheese, one of the lower-fat, lower-salt yellows. So thanks a lot for posting that link! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Yes, I still have my gallbladder for now but still debating whether I need to take it out or not? I would rather keep it and only get the stones out? Can that be done? I want to keep the bile going....

Yes, I heard from a few people about a few ERCP's required for this. And heard a couple of stories of the pancreatitis also. That's what I'm really hesitant about this gallbladder removal. URSO, I've checked this out and is it only for the specified problem which requires further testing? ie., liver or what type of stones? What would they have to do know what type of stones? So far, my liver seems to be OK, per last bloodwork taken for liver and pancreas.

I just googled this: "Ursodiol is used to treat a group of conditions known as cholestatic liver diseases (e.g., primary biliary cirrhosis). Cholestatic liver diseases are characterized by a decrease in bile secretion and bile flow.

Ursodiol is a natural component of bile and helps to increase the amount of bile and to increase bile flow. This helps symptoms associated with cholestatic liver diseases.

Drugs made from bile acid are used to dissolve gallstones. The drugs ursodiol (Actigall) and chenodiol (Chenix) work best for small cholesterol stones. Months or years of treatment may be necessary before all the stones dissolve. Both drugs may cause mild diarrhea, and chenodiol may temporarily raise levels of blood cholesterol and the liver enzyme transaminase."

The surgeon did explain the possibilities of ERCP as a 3% chance and perforation to the bowel from the cauterizing of the cystic duct as a 1% chance. Quincy: If I may ask, you have this type of problem also? and where did you sister get this done (if we are allowed to ask this type of question). Or email me?

But I have also talked to others that say, oh everything went well and feel great! hmmm.....Either way, it all sounds so scary!

Hi quincy: the doc I will be seeing is for the UC. My last scope surgeon recommendations was for referral to a GE in Wpg just in case things go wrong with UC.
