Has anyone used generic Canadian Asacol?

Hi everyone,

I am still trying to figure out what to do about my medication problems (ie affording the medication).  Anyway, I feel more safe with BRAND Asacol from Canada than generic.  Has anyone used the generic w/o problems?  (It seems to be called Generic Mesalamine EC or 5-ASA (Mesalamine Enteric Coated).  I was worried about generics because they don't seem to be produced by Tillotts which seems to be a worldwide company that manufactures pills for UC patients.  (However, I think Tillotts has been bought by another company called Zeria...it's hard to keep up!) 

 

Anyway, for those of you that get/got brand Asacol: was it manufactured in Canada?  It looks like you can get brand Asacol from Canadian pharmacies that is produced in other countries (ie Barbados, Turkey, United Kingdom).  Is that safe?  Is there a way to guarantee that your purchase of Brand Asacol was manufactured in Canada?

I have gotten it and it seemed ok. I ended up flaring up after many months but I don't blame it on my medication, I blame it mostly on a resistence to Asacol. I had received ipocol from UK and it seemed to work ok.

I fall into the donut hole every fall due to the high cost of the asacol.  Have been buying from canadian pharmacy for quite a few years.  I have been on asacol for 20 years (thought the patent period was 15, _) and yes I have been taking the canadian generic for asacol for about 6 years. So for 5 months a year i am on the generic.  I never detected any difference from one medication to the other.   Also, Canadian Pharmacy is a fantastic pharmacy to work with.

My ulcerative colitis was pretty bad...my doctors wanted me to have the colon removed.  This was over 15 years ago.  my gastro doctor has found tremendous success with megadose probiotics.  I take ultra flora max 50 billion   Have become so normal, it's scary....but certainly not complaining...........good luck tongue

I have been purchasing Brand Asacol from Canadian Pharmacy Meds.com. My prescription is for 360 tablets of the Asacol HD 800 mg. I am paying $365.00 US. That is
$1.00 per pill. The pills are made by Tillotts Pharma, Switzerland. I am a bit reluctant to buy the generic, so I have been sticking with the Brand for now because they work well for me. The difference between the brand and generic from what I have found is that the Brand is a slow release and work well for lower colon colitis which is what I myself have. Chemically they are probably identical, it is just a matter of where they release in you gastro system. If you research Asacol in this forum you will find that some people have had problems with the generic. I guess it just depends upon where you Colitis is.

I have been using generic Asacol for over four years and have not had a problem.  I am on Medicare and the generic version costs about $140 for 500 400MG pills.  I buy all of this medication from Canada so that I stay out of the donut hole.  It is cheaper for me to do this so that all other medications are covered by part D of Medicare.
