All-
Long story short, I started on prescription VSL DS in early December. My local pharmacy ordered it from a distributor- it shipped unrefrigerated and the pharmacy kept it overnight unrefrigerated; 1-2 days at room temp in December was fine, my big concern was did it sit in the distributor's warehouse for months on end at room (or worse) temperature.
I shot an email off the Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals back in December with my concerns. I got an email back soon after saying they were looking into it, and was also forwarded an email showing my email certainly made the rounds on their side and were taking it very seriously.
That was it for a while, and was thinking about it recently as it's almost time to refill my 3-month supply, when I got a phone call the other day from the person who originally replied. They had contacted the pharmacy and the specific distributor that the pharmacy told me they used. She also told me that at the time of my email, they were in the middle of hiring someone who would be responsible for distribution and quality control through that channel (they hadn't had someone specifically dedicated to that before then). She was very appreciative of my note, told me nobody (as far as she knew) had contacted them about this issue specifically, and when I re-asked my original question above, and basically "are you confident that VSL is kept refrigerated/at proper temperature while it's sitting in a warehouse, especially the one that supplies my pharmacy" she definitively gave a big "Yes".
And on a side note, in appreciation for bringing it up, they're sending me 2 boxes of single strength :)
