OT - update on my hand issues

So a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the inside of my hands would pebble when they got wet. They would itch and burn. But as soon as they dried, the bumps went away. So I had my doc appt today and she was stumped. They hand me run my hands under warm water and I only had slight bumps (figures) and she couldn't really tell me what it was from. So compiled with my reoccuring rashes and other issues, she felt it best to send me to the rheumatologist.

I have to go back to the office I went to before because of my insurance but I am seeing a different doctor because the doctor from hades retired (yay!). This horrible doctor made me feel like I was wasting his time when I went to go see him a few years ago which left me angry, confused and shaken with no answers. Even though I've been tested numerous times for Lupus, my primary is leaning toward this diagnosis. I have always felt that I may have it but it's been pretty much under control from the 6mp. I mean that would explain all these little weird things that have been happening including occasional blood in my urine, the rashes, drops in bp, vertigo, Raynaud's, small blisters all over my body and maybe even my eye issues.

I don't have an appt yet but when I get one, cross your fingers for me!

It would be nice to finally have an explanation for all these issues you keep enduring! Good luck and let us know what happens. From what I understand from the all of 3 people in RL that I know with Lupus, it is very difficult to diagnose.

Yeah, I heard it's hard to diagnose too unless the symptoms come up and slap you in the head. I go in on March 14th so hopefully I will get some answers but truthfully, I am not holding my breath. It seems to take doctors years to figure out what is wrong with me. For instance my back and neck has always hurt and it took nearly 10 years for them to finally figure out what was wrong. Very frustrating for sure.

Good luck with the appointment. I can understand why you're not looking forward to it, but hopefully this rheumy will be an improvement. Hang in there! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Hope you get the appointment sooner than later. And...a diagnosis.

Thanks for the update. ...and yes, it figures your symptoms weren't as extreme at the doctor's...but you still had a reaction..

Ah but I was smart this time! I actually brought my camera to the docs office and showed them pictures of my hands! LOL More or less to say, "See? I am NOT a hypochondriac!" And beside that, it was just a very weird manifestation.

Oh and on a side note, the intern there told me the pitting in my nails were from my psoriasis. I never knew that.

What's pitting? I have ridgey nails.
One GI used to have me hold my nails against each other like, the tops of your fingers, to check my protein. If you have a diamond shape between the nails I guess you're good.

You know there is a form of skin rash of the palms of the hand and soles of feet (not always both together) called palmoplantar pustulosis. It can start as pebbling of the palms of the hands, can lead to small pustules/blisters that will eventually pop. It can be worsened in exposure to water. Palmoplantar pustulosis is often seen in psoriasis. You obviously have involvement of psoriasis of your hands as attributed by the pitting of the nails (this is classic to psoriasis). The answer to your question may already be in front of you. Your primary doc should have recognized that.

Deep horizontal grooves or "pits". Vertical ridges are a normal process as we age but horizontal is not normal.
