Someone just sent me this article. Rooibos is a caffeine-free "tea" from South Africa. It's not going to hurt to consume it, and it might even help. You can likely get it in the grocery store, but definitely in a specialty tea shop.

A Japanese study showed that Rooibos could reduce inflammation in rats with colitis (open sores in the colon) via increased antioxidant activity with a consequent reduction in damage to DNA caused by oxidation. I hope it does work for people who try it. I have a cupboard full of various teabags tried in the past, including Rooibos (Red Bush) tea. For some weird reason anything with "natural" ingredients gets my colon as active as caffeine does. I've tried almost everything and Lipton Naturally Decaffeinated Black Tea is the only acceptable one for me.

Rooibos tea is not expensive and it won't hurt to try it. Most grocery stores have it on the shelf now.

I wonder how high the dosage was they gave to the rats. I have rooibos tea and it's pretty good.

I was wondering that too. It also doesn't say how it was administered - as a tea, eaten or maybe something more direct?

Doesn't hurt to add it to the mix. It doesn't taste bad at all, just different to regular tea. There are lots of flavoured versions out there too.

I've drank roobios tea. I like vanilla flavor. I've never noticed an improvement in UC from drinking it.

I drink tea like whoa, including roiboos. Doesn't seem to have an effect.

I'm allergic to it....makes my throat prickly and I feel a bit wheezy. I also get that same feeling from Yerba Maté.

I'm not affected by coffee or tea...

Most herbal teas give me a sore stomach...

i'm drinking it for a regular basis. because i like the taste mostly. and because i cannot drink cofee anymore on a daily basis. It also have a small antispastic effect.
i've read it helps coeliac people more than IBD people.

Hi

I am from Cape Town , South Africa where rooibos is grown. I have been drinking this tea since I was a little child and so I don't believe it's beneficial to UC

It does not make you worse either. It tastes god though and it as  lovely red colour

It might be like ginger tea. It helps reduce inflammation but is not a cure. And some people might not even notice the effect.

I'll have to try it. Thanks for the info.
