"Even though UC isn't considered a disability in college, just see what the institution can do. Talk to your student liaison, professors and dean to see what options you have."
Actually, UC should fall under your school's academic disability policy, usually under a chronic illness clause, and particularly if you're attending a public institution. With the higher incidence of diagnosis for IBD in later adolescence/early 20s, schools and professors are generally aware of the disease, to a certain extent, though in my experience they've heard of Crohn's more often than UC. If available get on this policy and alert all of your professors at the very start of your condition. With academic disability, even the professors who don't want to help must help you. You can generally get some sort of accommodation (much like those with learning disabilities, visually impaired, in a wheelchair, etc get) like permission to leave classroom more often and more flexibility on assignments.
