Imuron Migraines Anyone?

I have severe UC and was given the IV big dose of prednisone in the hospital 120mg, 60 each 12 hours.  I got a massive headache, for sure a migraine, in the hospital.  Never had a migraine before but I couldn't walk or be near any light.  I took migraine med and it went away after about an hour with a dull pounding after that.  Now it comes out of nowhere without warning.  I am at home on 40mg prednisone.  I also started imuron 3 weeks ago and had remacaide infusion in the hospital.   Anyone else get migraines that has never had them before after using any of these drugs?  I never had headaches on prednisone before or coming off of it.  The only new drug in the mix is imuron.

Yes, my headaches and migraines increased when I started 6mp. Once my body got used to it, my headaches lessened.

hi, thank you, please clarify- 6mg which med?  I started the imuron and I am taking 100mg.  I am taking 40mg prednisone and have been since last November 2010.  I cannot taper yet because of bleeding that starts up with the UC, but was on a high dose in the hospital.  I have had high dose before when in the hospital and never had a headache.  The only new thing is the imuron starting about 3 weeks ago.  I would have been on it 2 weeks when the headache started out of nowhere, so I don't know if it is related to imuron.  I hope not, but worry about the headache.  It is very severe too, I have never had a headache like this before.

6mp is similiar to Imuran. It's same classification of meds. Imuran breaks down to 6mp (Mercaptopurine) in the liver. If the headache is really severe, you might want to call your doctor. It might also be the combination of the high steroid use and the Imuran. Btw, it took about 2 months before my headaches lessened. I also had nausea and joint pain when I first started it along with mild hair loss.

Glad to hear that the headaches went away.  Did your liver become toxic?  I have heard often that imuron worked but the person couldn't take it due to liver toxicity.  The doctors already know about the headaches because of being in the hospital.  No one has any answers as usual and if I stop the imuron, it my only "medical" hope left.  Surgery is an option to the doctor and desired.  Keeping my colon is mine.  I started Ovamed yesterday, but this takes weeks for early results and is a 20 week course.  I hope I can hang on.  Maybe we need a new game show-

No my liver is not toxic as long as I stay at 50mgs - 6mp is half the dose of Imuran so your 100mgs of Imuran is the same as my 50mgs of 6mp. However, if I go higher then my liver gets close to toxicity. But that is what the frequent blood tests are for; to be sure your liver can handle it. You have been having your blood checked yes?

Nat, I had the severe migraines with Immuran too. I had to stop taking it because they were so bad I literally could not function. Good luck.

just thought I would throw it out there.  I would have never found it myself if I hadn't had a GI doctor tell me about it since searches yield nothing about it.  3 research doctors out of Iowa University did the work.  The product is Ovamed and it is used for GI diseases but also high success with allergies, autism, and arthritis.  You can look it up at ovamed.org    For me the drugs are just not working and I am a severe case so I am using Ovamed too now- the only guaranteed safe one-  the ovas die every 2-3 weeks so you cannot become overwhelmed with anything
