I got my 1st Monday this week, and wil have the 2nd (of 2) on Thursday. I am getting the 2-minute IV push instead of a drip. Feraheme, 512mg.

I poted a quetion about how soon I should expect any benefit, given the rate of red blood cell production. Nobody responded, but I did find a medical paper that demonstrated the efficacy of Feraheme by showing improved hemoglobing levels (vs control subjects) at 35days. So I guess it might be a few weeks before I should expect to feel like the anemia is gone.

Am waiting to see how much the hospital outpatient treatmentc center bills my insurance. I am confidant this get me past my deductable for the year.

I am not sure what I am getting, but they said it would take about 3 hours or so. My Dr is taking blood 10 days later, so I'm guessing there should be some improvement by then.

Fortunately, I am in Canada, and having it done in the hospital so it is covered by our universal health care.

If you do a search on the Crohns forum, you might find some more info. I noticed they seem to have more iron infusion info.

I had one before I was discharged with my first hospitalization. I don't recall the names of them, but the first one, I reacted to. The nurse knew there was a chance of it, so she was right there and got me taken care of right away, but I immediately knew something was wrong and was pretty frantic. (I have drug allergies though)

The second one, which they started a few hours later, went perfectly fine. Not a single issue with it. It took a while, but I was in the hospital anyway, so I didn't care.

I had many iron infusions prior to having surgery.  Mine were Venifor (sp?).  They took awhile and sometimes the nurses had trouble getting my IV in because I was pretty anemic.  Other than that I didn't have any issues and it made me feel fabulous (at least for a little while).
