Stupid steroid enemas made my flare worse!

I started taking Entocort about four days ago and my UC has been getting worse since. Today I woke up and had my first REALLY bloody stool since this flare up began (I mean it made the toilet water red) so I made a doctor's appointment immediately and will get some more Pentasa enemas and suppositories tomorrow.

The Pentasa enemas and suppositories weren't working wonders but they were showing gradual improvement. I actually saw a doctor to get a refill of them and he ended up putting me on the steroids. Bad move! Back to normal enemas. Hopefully I won't have to go to prednisone!

PS.

Has anyone ever had an orange stool before? What about pink mucus? I got that for the first time thanks to the Entocort. I'm not sure if it was the colouring that is in it or just blood mixed with various things... Either way, sucks...

Gosh, I'm so sorry! It stinks when we try the med that is supposed to help and it does the opposite.
Your post shows again how different we are in how we respond!
The steroid enemas do wonders for me, and I can do mesalamine ones and bleed more and more with each passing day.

My understanding is that the mesalamine enemas can take some time, so patience is the key. I hope that when you restart the Pentasa enemas they reverse this for you so you start healing!!

Sure, I've had orange stools, pink mucus, the whole rainbow. :-(

I had the same problem when I went on Cortenema. Rowasa enemas help me a great deal, but the Cortenema made everything worse. I ended up having to stay at 40 mg Prednisone for two extra weeks just to get things under control.

Maybe you can try the Salofalk enemas instead of the Pentasa?

ARe you in the US? or Canada or other?

I used to be on Salofalk when I lived in Canada but I'm overseas now (South Korea) and Pentasa seems to be the brand they go with here.

All the research studies I've read say the mesalamine enemas are ore effective than the steroid ones, and also safer, so...... sounds like that's the route for you!
