Nicotine patches?

I have been researching on the internet and am trying nicotine patches 15 mg. Has anyone had success with this treatment I am trying it along side my prescribed meds. I am on my second week of this.

I tried it, got severe nicotine overdose (not pretty) but I've never smoked and I'm also thin. The research is mixed - it seems that the actual carbon monoxide in cigarettes is what calms down the inflammation and not the nicotine itself. I believe that's why the nicotine enemas did not produce good results in clinical trials.

What were your bad symptoms? I thought it was doing some good but today I have bled alot and felt sick. Only been trying for 9 days so will prob persevere a bit longer. What dose patch did you try?

I don't tolerate the patches well (skin rash), but I have had sucess achieving remission with the nicotine lozenges.

I've had success getting out of a flare using nicotine with an electronic cigarette. Still on my regular meds (asacol plus some non-Rx things).
I started with a liquid that was 24mg/ml but I don't use a full ml per day. I've been tapering down and now use 12mg/ml most of the day with just a little of the 24mg in the morning.
so far so good and it's the first time I've gotten out of a flare without using prednisone.

I tried the patches for about three weeks over xmas/new year with the 7 and 14mg. The 7mg gave me vivid dreams, the 14mg gave me morbid nightmares.

That was all I got. Apart from being $75 poorer.

I used to be a heavy smoker 20 years ago as well.

I guess it's worth a try though, as some people claim it helps.

Great feedback thank you. I will persevere, I'm hoping I don't have to go above 15mg as psychologically it seems scarry to me. I hate meds, but I also hate what I see in the loo...p.s. Sorry I dont get that joke.

Lionhead, I got severe vomiting and irregular heartbeat after 2 hours on the patch (25 mg).

Well!  Isn't that interesting!  I was just about to post that I thought that line came from Blazing Saddles, but I thought I'd better check first.  Turns out it originated in a 1927 novel Treasure of the Sierre Madre, made into a movie in 1948.  It did appear in Blazing Saddles, but that is not where it originated.

Hi to all who have replied. My update...I have been noticing respiratory problems since beginning the nicotine patches and so am having to tail it off now. The UC bleeding began to lessen but then seemed to come back just as bad. Thanks for the light hearted responses its good to have a chuckle as we are all in the same boat.
