Eye pain with a flare??

Please go to your eye doctor. The medicines we take during a flare can effect our eyes quite a bit. Most problems are easily solved. At the very least you may need to increase the moisture in your eyes with eye drops.

Eye pain is nothing to be messed with so I ditto what has been said...please go see your eye doc.

even if my post will be the same as the ones before me: as quiqly as possible talk to your doctor and take meassures. if it's iritis then a quiq treatment will ease your problems and minimise the possible damages to your eyes.

I've never been on pred so I can't really comment about that however I have been on steroid enemas numerous times. I know the systemic reaction is not the same but some steroid is still absorbed - approximately 5-8mgs. It would not even touch an eye infection or issue so I always had to use a steroid eye drop. And yes, I got them from my family doctor. But you might want to see your doc just to be on the safe side.

Yes during my last really bad flare I developed a lot of eye floaters and developed dry eyes.  I got checked out by about 6 different eye docs, optometrists, opthamalogists, and even retinal surgeons.  I mean my eyes hurt at the time and I did start to see black floaty things.  My eyes came back normal with the exception of dry eyes.  I often use otc eye drops and even use Restasis.  They are doing better now and to a certain extent I have gotten use to them slightly being off.  The floaty things are normal with age and will not cause any harm.  I was never diagnosed with iritis and or uvietis. 

So yes I would see someone asap but keep in mind I am sure this is related to your flare.   Keep us informed.

as an optometrist that worked at the urgent eye care clinic.  i've treated lots of iritis/uveitis with pred. 

oral pred will not help ur eye much.

i would recommend u see an eye doc to make proper diagnosis before asking the family doc for steroid eye drop.

family doc does not have the eye slit lamp microscope to make sure its iritis vs. infection of some type

if bacterial or herpes infection, steroid can make it worse. 

also if ur getting floaters, there may be deeper inflammation in the vitreous, which in order to visualize, the doc needs to dilate the eyes and require proper equipment to diagnose.

finally, prolong steroid eye drop use may lead to high eye pressure>> may lead to glaucoma.  so eye pressure needs to be checked by eye doc regularly if using pred eye drops.
