100mg steriod enema's.......seems like a lot to me

I think I read somewhere that the body does not absorb all of it though.  Hope I can get off of them in a couple of weeks (I will taper them).

I think I read somewhere that the max amount absorbed from the enemas is about 30%, and often less is absorbed.
We all seem to be different in this as in everything else...... In my own experiences, when my colon is very inflamed (so, I assume, ulcerated with broken tissue) I seem to absorb more, and when there's very little inflammation I don't notice any side effects at all.
The worst I've ever had from cortenemas: flushed face, gaining 1 -2 lbs.
I hope you find them mild also. I sure prefer them to prednisone.

The steroid enemas contain hydrocortisone. 100 mgs of hydrocortisone is equivalent to 20 mgs of prednisone if I am not mistaken. Even if you were to absorb 50% of it, that would still only be the equivalent of 10 mgs of pred, which is not a huge amount, especially if it is only short term.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it! Do have the flushed face and chest today and a little emotional but hanging in there.

I was on 100mg  hydrocortisone enema for 14 days...only made it to day 10! Had the following side effects: dizziness, manea, fluid retention that increased my weight by 6 lbs and lowered my BMI from 25 to 20%! Most of it was in my feet legs, and fingers.  Lastly severe consitpation! It also made my UC worst!  I was bleeding more and discharging "red dust".

Everyone is difference in their tolerance to steriods, but 100mg is ALOT!  The normal oral dose is about 50mg.  Keep a records of your side effects and keep your doctor informed.

I was consuming 100mg of prednisone pills per day.

100 mg is the standard dose steroid enema, 60 ml of liquid.
