With swimming season creeping up I am finding myself concerned about
the pool in our apartment. It's 20 feet away from where I live and I have 2 kids that love to swim. I was just wondering if it is ok to swim in a pool where kids have poopy accidents, and lord knows what else in it while you are on Remicade? Does the chlorine kill everything?

Most public pool owners are so worried about
potential lawsuits and whatnot that they'll drop in enough chlorine to melt the skin off a whale. I'd be more worried about
the chlorine itself, haha.

Gosh, I had never even considered this!!! Honestly, I don't change my lifestyle much because of being on Remicade. I don't avoid places as a general rule (not that I am hanging out at the hospital licking walls or anything, lol).
And with two young kids, I can't avoid germs anyway. They bring it all home, and I am the one who is scraping throw up out of their hair and sheets at 2am, so I figure I am pretty much fully exposed to whatever is going around. I was on Humira for 20 months, we all went through H1N1 during that time, and I was the one who stayed the healthiest. I was feverish for a day. The rest of the family was down and out for a week. Same has held true on Remicade. I catch colds more now because I am pregnant, but honestly, I don't feel at all like I have had any additional issues as a result of being on Remicade. I do take a lot of supplements and am very preventative with my overall health, which may also help.
I agree with wavefunction though-they douse those pools with so much chlorine, it is doubtful anything could survive. I wouldn't worry about
it at all!

I flew across to Europe and all over the country while on Remi; now talk about
germ ridden places -- airplanes and airports! I actually was healthier on Remi than I have been since I've been off of it, so I say go and enjoy the pool -- the above posters are correct, it probably has pleny of chlorine in it!

Yes, they should be over-chlorinating it, but an apartment pool may or may not be kept up as well as other commercial pools- if it was me (and I'm a pool guy), grab an empty water bottle, fill it up with pool water, and take it to a local pool store- they'll test it for you for free- and they'll tell you if the levels are appropriate or not (and let them know it's a public pool so levels should be higher).

Please excuse my ignorance, but why should someone on remi be extra cautious about
the cleanliness of a swimming pool? (more than anyone else, that is)

When I was on Remicade I never got sick...not once. Now that I have had surgery, am healthy and off all the drugs, I catch everything my kids bring home. Go figure!

mackster-remi lowers your immune system, that's the reason.
however, personally, i don't like to be in public pools at all, ever! I dont mind waterparks though, lol.
But yeah i agree that most of them have way too much chlorine in them. And the pool should be shut down and shocked if someone has a poopy diaper in it, if that's not happening you need to talk to the apt manager about
it. That's dangerous for anyone!
