Cipro and Flagyl Advice needed

I asked my GI for a course of cipro and flagyl. He gave me a course cipro 500mg 2x day and flagyl 500mg 4x day. I took them for the last 9 days. I stopped them yesterday as I thought I felt tingling in my right hand, possible side-effects of both cipro and flagyl. After stopping them yesterday, today I am experiencing pain in my right calf, may be a side-effect of cipro. I talked to the physician assistant as the doctor wasnt available ans she just asked me to stop the abx.

I am worried about the pain in the right leg as cipro can cause tendon rupture. Should I go visit the emergency ward at a hospital about this ? Any quick advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

     I didn't know Cipro could cause tendon rupture!  My surgeon placed me on it, 500 mgm twice daily, for fourteen days after he drained a hematoma inside my anus back in August.  However, on the third day, I could barely get out of bed.   Every joint in my body ached.  I phoned his office and they said to stop the Cipro immediately.   I think he switched me to Bactrim for the remainder of the time.  Scary.

Maybe you can ask the doc to drop the Cipro if it is too much to take at one time along with the Flagyl. Maybe you don't need such a high dose of both antibiotics. It may prevent tendon rupture.

I found antibiotics very helpful to end my flare. I was only on Flagyl, 500 mg for 3 times a day for 3 weeks. It proved to be very effective without the Cipro.

(Don't take antibiotics without probiotics. S. Boulardii (Florastor) along with other more conventional probiotics should help prevent C Diff or other side effects of antibiotics).

I agree with Babe. My son took Flagyl for a 14 day course last Spring and we think it stopped his flare. (He also started probiotics, raised his asacol, and started Metamucil, but.... I'm not sure these other things would have clinched the flare without the Flagyl.)

Maybe just the Flagyl will do it......?

Cipro is definitely the culprit. Fortunately there are other choices if you should need it again. I hate Cipro, I'd much rather take Flagyl, as awful as that is!
