Suprep - has anyone tried this new prep?

Had trouble with Moviprep last week and had to cancel my colonoscopy.  My nurse said there is a new prep called Suprep that uses less amount of liquid and is more tolerable, but I'm leery.  I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if so, how was the taste?

I'm bumping this.... I believe someone has used it, but I can't remember who.

My GI mentioned it to me as a possibility for next year. He no longer uses the Miralax (someone got dehydrated and sued some doctor) but he allowed me to use it because I requested.

Suprep, anyone?

I am doing this prep tomorrow evening. When are you doing yours? If I do it before you, I can tell you how it is.

I am new here, and had to respond as I am doing the Suprep for a colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon.. I have been freaking out over this for the past several days, as read a lot of negatives on the boards earlier. I took the first bottle of it at 5 this afternoon and the next at  8 AM tomorrow for a 3PM colonoscopy . I like to have them done late in the day, although I do get hungry. So far ths has been the easiest prep I have ever had. I put the stuff you must drink in the refrigerator so it would be cold, and added cold water to it. It is really not bad tasting at all. I had earlier read that it was salty & tasted like cough syrup, but they must have changed it since late last year. It was rather minty and not at all salty. I chugged it, as just wanted to get it down. Took me 3 gulps to do it, and at the end it was a bit hard, but only because i don't drink liquids well.  The taste is tolerable.Then I sat down with the next glass of ice water and sipped it slowly and waited for something to happen. Got my 2nd glass and started on it and it suddenly started working....fast,. I might say quick and fast, as it was all over in about 45 min. and pretty clear. I have been drinking Vitamin Water all evening and know that the next dose will not be bad since I got thru this one pretty easy. I am so glad that there is a prep that doesn't consist of trying to get down a huge amount of water. I asked my gastro about Osmoprep & you must sign a release if he gives it to you. In other words if your kidneys get screwed up it's not his fault. So far I am happy with this prep and don't expect any problems in the morning. I would love some food!

Thanks Coloprep for that info, and thanks everone for the welcome. I'm new here but I've had UC for 20 years this November. For some reason this last prep using Moviprep did not sit well with me. I threw it all up two hours after I got the first two 8 ounces down. So I had to cancel my scope.

Red-34, good luck with your scope. Yes, please give us details on the Suprep!! I can use all the feedback on it as I'm due to reschedule my colonoscopy soon.

I took the 2nd botle of the Suprep at 8 AM, and must say the 2nd bottle was not as easy as the first, but it beats the other methods. This one made me a bit nauseous, but it certainly has cleaned me out. It is now I 1/2 hrs after I drank it and still feel rather crappo, but, at least, that part of it is over with only 2 bad times of prep. I am getting ready to drink some chicken broth to get some nourshment. I don't have to be there until 2 and think perhaps the long time without eating is not a good idea. WIsh I could say this is a great prep, but can only say they all are lousy but this is a step forward in that you are not tied to drinking terrible stuff for hours. The only two times of drinking crap beats the other preps. I am so glad the bad part is over with and wish the rest of you lots of luck. It is doable.

My instructions are to start at 6pm and do my second dosing at 9pm tonight....with lots of water in between. No prep is easy that is for sure! I have to say the worse one ever was the Phosoda - I'm glad they took that off the market. I can tell you one thing though.....I am starving! lol

Luckily, I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am so at least I won't have to wait long.

6PM and 9PM....OMG! Well, it sounds better than 5PM and 8AM. Hope you don't feel too sick with them that close together though. It will be good to have it all oveu with in a short time. I don't do mornings well which is why I got the scheduling for the Suprep like I did. You are a lot wiser than I since I have to go almost 2 days without eating anything but the garbage you can eat with your prep. I've never eaten so many popsicles at one time in my life. Be careful with chicken broth...it tastes just terrible. Good luck to you

LOL Actually I learned my lesson about chicken broth a couple years ago on my last scope. I really don't mind the taste but my body does not like broth at all! I think I was cleaned out from the broth better then what the prep did.

Had my colonoscopy at 3 and everything was ok...one polyp. My husband & I went to a fast food place to eat, as I was too hungry to sit and wait for food in a restaurant. Good thing I did, as got home about 5. Was changing my clothes when I felt thjs gush...dashed to the bathroom and there came the AM prep, which I thouight was pretty light this morning, and wondered if I was even totally clean for the procedure . BUT - am I glad we didn't go to a restaurant to eat...what embarrassment. Now I wonder where it was hiding all day that even missed coming out during the colonoscopy.

Ok bare with me folks I rarely post on these sites... so my question is Suprep..I read that for the most part everyone is happy with it (or as happy as well all can be) I have my test on friday the 8th ,,, I was given the option of the suprep or the ducolax and Miralax prep...the Dr. recomends the Suprep....HOWEVER reading the information that comes along with it could actually scare THAT stuff they are tyring to get out of us all.. right out of you!!!  IF you get my point...I called the doctor and he said he suggested the Suprep..my last colon and endoscopy was 5 years ago...I took the Ducolax one and after taking the 4 pills I felt really strange and anixous..so was happy to receive the Suprep until I READ THE INFO ...so thoughts and experiances would be ever so helpful and apprecaited..

NJ, they have to include that informational pack to cover all bases. The same info is the same on all preps. But the chances of anything happening from the prep is rare to minimal.

It tastes a bit like a salty fruity drink. It's sort of hard to get down - or maybe that was me because the saltiness is rough. I used a straw and placed it as far down the tongue as possible without gagging. I would take a few sips then use a chaser such as Gatorade or water. There is a lot less to drink then other preps. It also works FAST! I literally was running to the bathroom after the first 8oz. No prep is easy but I would have to say this one really wasn't that bad.

Red-34....wow... now that is a quick response ....I assume the company is covering its butt ...and was unaware that all the preps say the same thing....I have been having some stomach issues over the past few weeks and really thought the doctor would just give me an anti spasmatic ...but they all seem to go for the scopes these days before they do anything else.....and I am sure that is the most comprehensive way to do it.......thank you so very much for replying so quickly....I am one big stress ball after reading the side effects....and I like the straw tip with go for that one....and yes it does seem like it works quicker then the older prep which I suppose will be a plus and then I can still drink clear liq. right on through unitil I do the second dose friday at 7am..right...???

NJ, I also read the info on Suprep (on their website) and almost cried, but I guess they all have to report the possible side effects.  I don't know if I want to go with Suprep afterall, mostly because I cannot stand the salty taste.   I want to try the Miralax prep!   Even if I need to fast for a full week -- anything to clear me out without the gross salty preps.  Moviprep was so bad. 

Red, you're lucky you got all the Suprep down.  I don't think even if it's a smaller amt. to drink that I can do it.

LOL Actually Decaf, I DIDN'T finish the whole prep. There are two bottles and I barely was able to get the last 2oz down from the first bottle. It wanted to come back up. But I was going clear anyway and obviously I was sufficiently cleaned out for the doc yesterday. Yeah, it might be wise to try the Miralax. I use that on occasion for constipation and it doesn't have any taste at all.

NJ, when are you scheduled for your scope? I didn't do the two day split dosing. I was supposed to do it both in one night and nothing to eat or drink after midnight. You can always call your doctor for a better clarification about the prep.

awww...thanks decaf....yeah that stuff is pretty awful to read...ya know what I was reading on this site about the suprep did make me feel a little better...lets face it ...they all stink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but 5 years ago I took the ducolax pills and the magn/citrate...that was like sprite with a pound of salt in it...and I did ok with the liquid it was the pills that made me feel like I was going to pass out..,.

Red,   my scopes are on friday the 8th..at noon....I called the doctor yesterday after freaking out ...he said to take the first one at 5pm thursday evening then the 2nd dose at 7:00 in the morning...I will do my best to get it all done.  However when your cleanned out your cleaned out...not to be gross.. but I guess I will see how it all goes through the night to see how much I will have to do of the 2nd dose...I mean there is that fine line of ok I am good and cleaned out !!!  and I dont want to make myself sick to my stomach while getting to the hospital...right???

and it sound like you just did the first half of it...

Yes, I just did the first half. I was always under the impression that you couldn't have anything to eat or drink after midnight because of the sedation so I was a bit surprised that the Suprep has a split dosing schedule for the evening and morning the day of the scope. Are you being completely sedated or are you going to be awake?

ok just cked and yes I will be under the normal light sedation they give all...I spoke with the nurse and she also said the Suprep was a very good prep and they have little complaints with it ...so I am guessing for now I will go with that....only because I had such a weird sensation with the ducolx pills last time...ugh!!!!!!!!!!!! there is no easy way around it I guess...but thanks for bringing up the questions of sedation...and the 2nd dose..they said you can be sedated as long as your last liquid is a least 4 hours from the procedure..ok so I guess its full steam ahead ...at least for now...

I have AFib and that part of the warnings had me totally terrified. I called my cardiologist and he assured me that it didn't apply to my problem. All of the warnings were terrible, but be assured nothing happened. It is necessary to put them on all drugs, and they all are so scary. I don't know why it is being said it's salty, as that was my big worry, and it wasn't at all salty. It had a rather minty taste...about like the guy on UTube said if you watched UTube of his prep. It was harder to get down the 2nd time, but having the doses seperated by one late in the afternoon and the other early the day of yoiur procedure makes it more tolerable. I was sedated and, after the fact ,I will admit that this was the far better prep of ones I have had in the past. Good luck.

Coloprep, maybe they have different flavors of the Suprep? Because mine was definitely not minty...I wouldn't have minded that to tell the truth.
