Blood in stools after biopsy?

Hi all. I had my flex sig on friday morning. Today was my first bm since then. It was formed but they were streaks of blood in the stool. It wasn't bright red blood like it was from a fissure--it was darker than that. Is it normal to have some blood in stools after biopsies? I want to say the GI took 5 or 6 from different areas from the sigmoid down. I don't remember anything like this from my colonoscopies.

It is fairly normal to have a bit of blood after biopsies. If it continues for more then a few days, or gets worse, then give your Dr. a call.

I have had blood after biopsies but only immediately after the biopsy. Of course while flaring, I had blood before and after and it continued.

I hope everything is back to normal in a day or two. I am sure it will be.

Normal. When you had your big air releasing fart...no blood with that?

Definitely do as suggested from the others...if it continues for a few more bms, call the doc.

I had the tissue-y/bloody stuff pass when I got all the air out on Friday but that only lasted like 5 farts and ended Friday afternoon. This is my first poo since the prep and has the blood in it. I'll keep an eye on it. I have a follow up appt with my GI on the 26th to talk about the scope and biopsies.

BTW, bleeding is NOT a normal symptom for me. Never ever been a symptom for me

If you have any rectal meds, you could take them...but since the blood isn't a brighter red, it seems it's been sitting a bit and will change colour a bit if mixed in with mucous.

It's only 2 days...I've had mine last for 4 days, and my doc takes 30+ biopsies.

I wouldn't worry at this point.

Yeah I'm not "worried" worried. I just don't remember it happening before. It's been so long since I've been through all this stuff and I was so young at the time so I'm having a hard time remembering!

I got the results of the biopsies today. They showed ulcerative colitis (DUH) and under the additional comments it said that it was "minimally active" and I should follow up with my GI.

Because the activity is minimally active, your colon might be slightly fragile which may account for the bleeding. I always bleed after biospies and mine last for sometimes up to a week - depending on the state my colon is in.

Does minimally active mean that its not severe enough to show visual inflammation?

It could mean that on visual inspection, that it is marginally red/inflamed or perhaps microscopically.

I don't think minimally active is a bad thing but it means that it is active. When I was in a really good remission, my biopsies showed inactive. I was very excited about that but at the time I thought inactive meant "Cured" and later I found out it meant just not active right now.

It means that the symptoms that you've been having are indicative of a flare...early in its course, however.

Hence my consistent urging (pun) of rectal meds. Get on them asap.

That was my understanding of minimally active, its mild and early in the progression.

Has the bleeding stopped?

I guess I bleed easily - it's usually an early sign of a flare for me, but I do get bleeding for a few days after biopsies. I'm hoping that's what you've experiences and nothing more.....

I hope you can keep that minimal inflammation from getting any more active. .... I think "minimally active" sounds pretty darned good, actually!

I had a flex S-scope a couple of months ago, and I watched as the GI took three snips for biopsy, they bled when he snipped, and the next day I had streaks of blood in my otherwise normal stool. I didn't bleed after that, and remained in remission.

Minimally active sounds reminiscent of my initial flare. I didn't by any means have a severe case of UC but it was enough that I needed to seek treatment and it compromised my quality of life. There were never big flashing arrows pointing to areas in my colon saying "look here! I'm inflammed!" lol. It was always based on biopsies. I don't know. It's just too complicated! I'm hoping I can nip it in the bud before it gets worse...

I would have watched the scope but I wore my glasses because I had to be up at the butt-crack (lol butts, poops and farts always find their way into my life!) of dawn so when I laid down they took my glasses and I have HORRIBLE eye sight so I couldn't see.

I know the feeling. I am horribly nearsighted.... usually I wear my contacts even though I'm not supposed to sleep in them (as the meds wear off). (tsk tsk.....) I know that's not good, but... that's what I've done sometimes.
