thrush and colifoam

I am having a mild flare up and noticed blood this morning so thought I would take colifoam.  Its been a long time since I have used colifoam thankfully so I read the instructions and it said to inform the doctor before taking colifoam if you have suspected yeast infection/thrush. 

Is it ok to use colifoam if you think you may have a thrush infection?  Its Sunday and tomorrow is a bank holiday so I wouldn't be able to talk to my doctor until Tuesday and I would like to get this under control as soon as possible.

Steroids can suppress the immune system but Colifoam doesn't enter the blood stream like an oral steroid would. But I am not a doctor so I can not advise you either way. It would be best to wait to hear from your doctor or go to an urgent care clinic if it gets worse.

Thanks Sherry.  I spoke to an out of hours doctor on the phone and he said that it would be fine to take the colofoam so I did.  Thanks again.

Those with UC seem to be pre-disposed to yeast from what I've been told.

Just a quick correction - Colifoam actually can enter the bloodstream. This is especially likely if the bowel is inflamed. While you don't get as much systemically as taking steroids orally, it's not acurate to say it doesn't get into the blood.

That's why I said not like an oral. Approximately 5-8mgs of steroid enter the bloodstream via a steroid rectal med but the dose is not high enough to suppress the immune system like an oral.
