I must be stupid.

Hi every one.
as you can tell i don't post much and so today i made up my mind
to ask for help and advice.
i have UC since 2007, for the past 4 years i had just mild flares , the first
time i flared i called my GI, the nurse told me that everything is fine and it will pass.
well it did and so each time after that i did not call the Doctors office because they would tell you the same thing.
now i'm flaring bad and i thought it is time to call the Doctor, well it took day's for them to call me back. long story short i have a appointment for June 16th.

i reached the point now to forget the Doctor and find some one else, or should i wait and see what he has to say..

my question is , how often do you all see your doctor ?
i'm taking Sulfasalazine and maybe i need something else .

Hi Monica, your English is excellent.

If you feel you have been getting not timely or poor response from your doctor then yes find one that responds when you need help. Waiting over 5 weeks? Not good at all. But of course getting in to see a new doctor might take some time also. If it were me I'd call this current doctor back and be a little more forceful, like I need help NOW.
See what that does (and I hope he doesn't start you on prednisone without seeing you in person).

The nurse who speaks with me (and you and every other UC'er) is a very important part of this. My current GI's nurse is excellent, calls back the same day always. There is really no excuse that they did not call you back for days, that indicates a poorly run office (understaffed, overworked, inefficient) no matter how good the doctor is.

You have many Rx options to try if you are taking Sulfasalazine now without getting into more serious drugs.
If your doctor cannot see you in person ask the nurse what different medication you can take until your June appointment. In addition to a new oral drug also ask for a prescription for mesalamine enema (Rowasa is the brand name but it's also generic).
