Hi there. I'm new to your forum, but very glad I've found it.
I've been diagnosed with UC 6 years ago, with mild inflammation on the left side. It's been put into remission fast with enemas, Colazal and Canasa. It worked, and during my second pregnancy I put off all the meds and was ok for over two years! But good times are off, and had major flare up in the mid-April. Colonoscopy, endoscopy and UC is back also on the right side
My GI put me on Prednisone, starting 30 mg/day. Now I'm down to 20mg/day and be that way for w few weeks before tampering down. It worked miracle just from the beginning, in terms of my symptoms. I'm also on Lialda, no side effects for that so far (previously Colazal worked best for me, but this time I've read that Lialda works better for the whole colon). And we aim for Lialda on the long-term basis, and tamper prednisone within the next 6-7 weeks.
Long story short: in a week I'm off to Europe for 3 months with kids, visiting family for summer. Taking the whole bunch of meds with me, keeping fingers crossed that tampering Predn will go without any flare ups.
So now I've been on Predn for 3 weeks, 6-7 more to go. Should I do some blood work in the meantime? My GI hasn't mentioned it, maybe due to my trip plans. I have history of a little higher cholesterol that it should be (the "good" one is too high..) so I'm a little worried here how will the Predn effect that? What else should I check during my Predn therapy?
BTW, the side effects.... I sleep maybe like 4 hours a night, and already have to keep an eye on how much do I eat
Still on the good side, as with the major flare up I lost a lot of weight but keeping in mind that those pounds can linger a little too long
