Prednisone not working at all?

Well I put off taking prednisone for as long as I could with this flare. Unfortunately, my immune system went brezerk and I got a terrible sinus infection, staph infection, chest cold that simply wouldn't respond to the antibiotics. After a month of daily fevers in the 100-101F range my general practicioner put me on a Prednisone taper to try to get things under control. The taper starts at 60mg and goes down 10 mg every 3 days.

The blessed thing is that the infections in other parts of my body have cleared up and my energy is returning. No more fever. The downside is that I have seen NO effect on my colitis symptoms (significant blood/blood clots/mucus/urgency).

I know that I'm steriod dependent from previous experience, since I always flare back up during a taper at around 20mg Prednisone. However, I thought that the initial high dose would stop the bleeding to at least some extent. Anyone had experience with Prednisone not working at all?

I'm currently waiting to get to a new GI doc and me and my general practicioner are just trying to 'hold out' until the 19th of this month. I'm just not sure if there is anything else that I can do until then. I've been trying to get plenty of rest and eat well. Any thoughts?

How long have you been on it so far? It can take a little time to start showing results.

It can take a bit longer to work the more often you are on it. You have only been on it for 4 days?

If your symptoms are not improving, I wouldn't continue the taper without talking to my Dr. Maybe you need to hold at a higher dose for more than 3 days to get things under control.
