Actually for me Fibre tabs do me wonders and it was worth the 3 months of added gas, bloating and discomfort for the benefit of formed stool and then completely got rid of my excessive gas and all my bloating...my GI suggested I take fibre supplements daily and indefinitely and I'm glad I listened to him (finally a GI with some good advice and helpful)....here I am 7ish yrs later, still taking only one fibre supplement a day (some need to increase but one works well for me)....it also helped cut back on some of my frequency.
If you don't stick with fibre then you have to start all over again (not worth it), plus since my system adjusted to fibre supplements, I'm able to eat ALL fibreous foods, beans, (don't give me gas) broccoli, all salads, popcorn, ect. All with no pain or discomfort just nice formed stools.
Also, I was flaring quite severly when my GI suggested I start with fibre supplements, so you don't have to wait until you come out of a flare to do fibre...if that was the case I'd never have gotten the chance to do fibre since I've always flared to some degree in my 20 yrs of having IBD.
You know what they say about fibre, no pain, no gain....fibre is your friend...just start with a small amount, drink lots of water daily and only increase when initial symptoms of fibre (gas/bloating) have gone away, and only if necessary should you increase...I'm still doing well with one cap/day (before bed with plenty of water).
Good luck!
