I have had trigger finger for 3 years. Trigger finger is where the tendon sheath "clamps" down on the tendon or there can be a nodule on the tendon itself (snagging on the sheath) which causes the fingers to lock down or catch. I have had 5 steroid injections in my left index finger over the course of those 3 years. The last one did absolutely nothing. My doc seems reluctant to send me to a hand surgeon but today I am going in and demanding she send me to one or I am going to have to find a new doc. I am really really bad when it comes to confrontation - gets me nervous, which causes my gut to act up a bit.

I have been in pain for the last 2 months, which is why I haven't been posting much. The surgery seems pretty straight forward and quick...recovery ehhh may take a bit longer. But I am so ready to have this swelling and pain gone. My finger is "bowed" like it's pointing at the floor, I can't bend my finger at the knuckle nor the middle joint without pain, the tendon is standing out and is rock hard, and I keep having intense pain radiating from the knuckle joint into my palm.

I have never had to push for surgery so wish me luck guys!

Which hand is it, right or left, and are you right or left-handed?

It's my left index and I am right handed. I am grateful though that it's not my right! lol But if you think about it, it's hard to NOT use a hand...or at least a major finger. My other fingers of my left hand are getting sore from being used to much.

Goodluck Sherry. You go in there and tell that doctor what you need! It's crazy that she's not suggesting surgery at this point.

My mom had a REALLY bad trigger finger and she had the surgery done. She said compared to the pain of the trigger finger, the surgery was a breeze. Good luck!!

Sherry....demanding is a good thing. You have enough to deal with and if something can be helped by surgery, you should have it done.

At least this is something you can tick off the list.

Got my appointment with the hand surgeon on July 11th! :) I should know then when I will have the surgery. In the meantime, I got another shot to try and see if it will get me out of pain until then.

Sara the surgery is not scheduled yet :) My appt is just for the hand surgeon for the consult. I should know more on the 11th when the surgery will be.

Wishing you a helpful consult on 7/11! My 6th grade teacher (way back) needed tendon surgery in one hand, and we girls in the class fretted so much about her absence for recuperation that she invited all of us to visit her at home one afternoon. I recall that she had a light cast & had to keep the hand elevated. We all had tea & cookies & cheered each other up-- so then we girls promised to cooperate with the substitute teacher! Funny how your post brought that experience back to mind ... / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Sherry, That is great you got an appointment!! When it comes to being demanding and confrontational, remember you are the person who matters most and if you ruffle a few feathers thats too bad!! Good Luck!!

The shot seem to take the majority of the pain away and took some of the swelling down. I still can't straighten my finger but that's okay...for now.

Sorry to hear that you have been going through so much pain lately.
And yep, it's hard to not use both hands throughout the day :(
Hope you are giving it a good rest at home. don't do so much house work!

Collegestudent, funny you should mention that. My daughter, who's 15, is out of school for the summer. She has been an angel! If my hand is too sore to do anything, she will do things for me...including laundry! lol

Do you have only one daughter? Just wondering if this is the same daughter as the one with no door? lol.

Awesome she's empathetic and is helping you with stuff around the house. You deserve it!
