Yea...I suggested the bucket...but that's when they decided for me to go to a hotel! Gee...felt like a dog being kicked out of the house due to an accident that didn't even happen yet!
I don't see how a hotel solves the problem if I'm at their house during the day. Guess some people just do get it.
While I don't have the UC diagnosis I have severe IBS like symptoms at times and go on an annual all women's trip in the fall, with women in my age group (baby boomers). They always suggest I get my own hotel room too - in downtown Chicago!!! Sure I'm going to plunk down that amount of $ for 3 nights and then if I had my own bathroom, they still assume I only poop once a day (like they do). Or can hold stool for long periods of time (like they can).
That's the real crux of the problem I believe - people w/o bowel issues who can eat and drink anything they want to and still poop only once a day wonder why we can't be like them. It's so frustrating.
I usually get these responses - "can't you just hold it (like I do)?" - "isn't there a pill you can take for ~that~ (meaning my problem interfering with their world)?"
It is very frustrating, that's all I can say. I've taken about
6 short weekend trips in the past year and been very ill on 5 of them. Consequently I've made the decision to travel as little as possible and only with my immediate family.
A portable toilet would be a great comfort to me, what if there was a water main break and I couldn't use my own bathrooms, or what if our sewer system backs up (I accidentally flushed a dog toy a few months ago after cleaning our new puppy's crate from repeated #2's, and I forgot this toy was in the bucket water. You have NO IDEA if I still wonder if this toy will clog our entire system and then I won't be able to flush a toilet).
Jeez, I hate living like this as you all do as well, but I've been at it for 12 years now......
I just wish the non-bowel issue folks would be more understanding of our needs.
