OT - I am finally getting my hand surgery

After dealing with trigger finger (this is where the tendon sheath tightens down around the tendon causing contracture or a possible nodule on the tendon sheath unable to let the tendon glide smoothly) for 3 years, I am going in on Wednesday to have my tendon sheath release.

I've been sort of hit and miss here on the Uc forum because I can only respond to about two or three posts at a time or it causes me pain (and with two other forums to moderate, I need to spread myself out! lol).

I am going under sedation and the doc will numb my hand. They make an incision about 1" just under the finger about an 1" down (palm side). She will then snip the tendon sheath, allowing free movement again. I hope to be pain free in a week or two (perhaps sooner).

So anyway, wish me luck guys! Hopefully this will fix me up and y'all get to "hear" me yapping again! smilewinkgrin

Hooray! I hope it helps. I have a c-scope that day, so we'll both be enjoying the anesthesia, lol

Q - I know! I went in to the hand surgeon for the consult yesterday and asked if I was ready to have it done this Wednesday.....and I'm like heck ya! lol

Tank - been there and done that already so I'm good to go for another 2 years! :) Thank goodness!

Good luck, Sherry. Based on my experience you may have soreness when you clench your fist for a while, but that was the worst. Hope you have a speedy recovery and a great result!

lol you are ep...i still can't type well - i'm one fingering the keyboard right now. numbness is wearing off and i'm starting to get pretty sore and stiff.

doc snipped my tendon sheath but she had to fix my tendon too because it was fraying. overall surgery was fine....recovery is gonna hurt! but im ready to be pain free :) oh an btw, i can straighten my finger now too! :)

So things are already improved even before you have fully recovered! That is really good.

Good news Sherry!!! just having the finger straightened is a big thing...hope the recovery isn't too bad.

Will you have to any therapy after all is healed? or during healing..etc?

what pain meds are you taking?

not sure on therapy, probably tho and no pain meds. i'm allergic to many so right now i'm getting by on tylonel.

Great news, Sherry! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I've been having hand pain in my right hand for several years now and I'm finally going in to see a bone and joint specialist next month. The pain isn't that bad most of the time, but if I've been typing or using the mouse a lot (which is basically my job every day sitting at a computer and typing), then it can be very painful.
